PAUL E. WEST

PROFILE

Paul E West born January 28, 1934 in Harlem, N.Y. Studied violin from age six to age 19 with Albert Polnarioff. Attended the High School of Music and Art and Wagner College, Staten Island, N.Y. Changed Violin to Bass 1954.

Performed with the following artist: Ray Charles, Dizzy Gillespie, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Carmen McRae, Johnny Mathas, Billy Eckstine, Billy Taylor, Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, Milt Jackson Quartet, Chris Conner, Peggy Lee, Petula Clark, Charles Aznavoire, Kenny Barron Duo/Trio, Randy Weston, Joe Williams, Tommy Flannegan Trio.

Paul E. West served as Director of Jazz Mobile, Inc from 1969-1973. From 1973 - present he is Director of Music School of The Henry Street Settlement.
He has also served as conductor for Dizzy Gillespie on tour in Japan with The Arrow Jazz Orchestra. In 1981 and 1988 Paul E. West conducted concerts with Dizzy Gillespie and The Henry Street Settlement Symphony Orchestra. In 1984 Paul E. West conducted The Henry Street Settlement Symphony Orchestra in a concert at Avery Fisher Hall with Carmen McRae as soloist.
He also conducted a string Orchestra at The Montreal Jazz Festival in a concert with Randy Weston, soloist. The concert was recorded and CD is now available.
Paul E. West continues as Administrator and Educator, Bassist and Conductor.
１９３４年１月２８日ハーレムで生まれる、。６歳の時からヴァイオリンを始め、１９歳までスタトンアイランドのワーグナーカレッジにてアルバートポルナリオフに学ぶ。
ニューヨークに在住し、ミュージシャンから高い信頼を集め、ベーシストとして、数え切れないミュージシャンと共演している。
教育関係では、ヘンリーストリートセトルメントという音楽学校において、ダイレクターをつとめる。
またシンフォニーオーケストラの指揮者としても活躍し、カーメンマクレイ、ディジーガレスピー等をゲストに迎え数々のコンサートをこなしてきた。
